Women's Summit

Tue-20 May 2025 - 09:05 PM

Aden - 11/5/2025

Wujoud Foundation for Human Security proudly commends the women’s protest held yesterday in the interim capital, Aden, under the slogan “Women’s Revolution.” This protest represents the voice of all governorates under the control of the legitimate government, with Aden as a model. The organization affirms the legitimacy of the demonstration’s legitimate demands, which express the tangible suffering of daily life in inhumane conditions and the hardship of living due to the failure of the government and local authorities to meet the basic rights to a dignified and secure life.
We, at Wujoud Foundation, support this women's demonstration and renew our call that we launched in the foundation's statement entitled "Putting an End to Threats towards Human Security"... We did not find any kind of interaction or response from the government and local authorities. Rather, they allowed the situation to go from bad to worse, repeating itself with each summer season, in addition to evading the implementation of strategic economic measures that would stop the collapse of the national currency, which no longer meets the simplest requirements of daily life, and the increase in all prices, especially food, medicine, health and fuel, and the interruption of salaries for long periods, which created an inhumane situation and threatened the lives, safety and health of citizens, especially the elderly, people with special needs, children and the poorest and most marginalized groups.
The Women’s demonstration and publicizing their demands to the world, while embodying their right to freedom of protest, peaceful assembly, and freedom of opinion and expression, also provide an effective voice for women and highlight the impact of this suffering on human security in Yemen. It also demonstrates the ongoing initiative of the Feminist movement to advance various demands related to the right of equal citizenship and a decent life, and to combat all forms of violations of social and economic rights practiced collectively against citizens, both men and women. This is due to the legitimate government and local authorities’ failure to fulfill their obligations to provide services, particularly electricity, water, and sanitation, to pay salaries to all sectors of public and mixed institutions, and to halt the currency’s deterioration and collapse.

Wujoud Foundation for Human Security calls on the legitimate government and local authorities to fulfill their legal and constitutional obligations towards citizens, to halt the policy of collective punishment of citizens, and to rapidly implement comprehensive, immediate, and radical solutions that guarantee the provision of all basic living rights and prevent further suffering that the people can no longer bear.
